Our curriculum

A broad, balanced curriculum

At JIS we teach a broad, well-structured and balanced curriculum covering all objectives and requirements set out in the Oxford International Curriculum (OIC), with further local enrichment and cross-curricular opportunities.

A Janique lesson in progress

The Oxford International Curriculum

The Oxford International Curriculum is a comprehensive, all-through educational programme developed by Oxford University Press (UK) for learners from Early Years through Secondary School. It prepares learners for international qualifications such as the OxfordAQA examinations (GCSEs, AS and A-levels).

Inquiry-led thinking

Learning built on inquiry, critical thinking and creativity rather than memorisation.

Global skills

Core academic subjects blended with the global skills learners need beyond the classroom.

Student wellbeing

The joy of learning sits at the heart of the curriculum, with wellbeing built in.

Sustainability

Learners are educated to live more sustainably and to build real-world skills for the future.

Our early reading programme

We run a comprehensive early reading and writing programme that follows the guidance and progression set out in Jolly English, Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar. We also make use of Floppy Phonics from the Oxford International Curriculum.

Inclusion

Special Education Needs

We are an inclusive school with a well-planned inclusion programme for children with neurodivergent conditions. We make provision for and accommodate these children in our SEN class, which runs on therapeutic activities to help them make progress in their areas of developmental delay.

Learners are integrated back into mainstream classes once they achieve a level of independence that lets them cope with the demands of the class.

Continuous professional development

A literacy hub and centre of excellence for teacher training

Staff at Janique are lifelong learners, constantly keeping abreast of emerging ideas and practices in education. We use peer tutoring, mentoring and coaching to integrate new staff, and engage external resource persons who are masters in their fields to deliver training.

Our director is accredited by Jolly Learning, UK, to deliver training for new and experienced teachers in Jolly Phonics, Jolly Literacy and Jolly English. We also offer training and support for teachers who want to work with children with special needs, and for schools that want to make inclusion part of their programmes.
